Residential geothermal heat pumps are rated as to their efficiency
and energy usage by the Environmental Protection Agency through its
Energy Star ratings program. Earning the Energy Star certification means products meet strict
energy efficiency guidelines set by the EPA and the Department of Energy. Energy Star qualified geothermal heat pumps use about 30% less energy than a standard heat pump.
They are also quieter than conventional systems.
